How do you think the representation of women has changed in horror movies?

I'm doing a media project and I'd like to know your opinions. How do
you think over time women's roles have changed in horror movies?

For example, women used to be the feeble, weak victim who needed to be
saved by a strong man, whereas nowadays they're strong and confident
(Like Sydney from Scream) or in some films, they're even the
killer/villain. What do you think, and why do you think this might
have happened?
